Perform, broadcast or show the work in public. Adapt the work. You should become a tax avoidance lawyer as that's the same sort of line they trot out Of course it inconveniences. Its to make you validate. It stops the casual thief. In the same way a key for your car does. Nothing will stop hard core pirates at all.
But good to see Schrodinger admit to being a thief and parasite. At least he's honest. These companies owe you fuck all and you have no divine right to play their game unless you pay for it. And then you get it warts and all. But it shouldn't be an issue for a paying customer, that is the point. We shouldn't be at the point where people are thinking. I'm a bit bored today and I realised that I hardly played Spellforce 2 after I bought it years ago.
Just installed it. Now I paid money for this game, I didn't pirate it, I bought it, as far as I'm concerned I should now be able to play it and anything I have to do after this point is in my opinion, unnecessary and inconvenient. The bottom line is that I can't currently play the game, the installer tells me that it has to install some libraries for the copy protection.
A bit annoying but I figure I'll let it. Next an error massages come up sayign that my version of windows Win7 64 also an issue on Vista 64 needs digitaly signed drivers. A quick web search shows that the games used Starforce protection. I'm imagining that I can go on the net and download the files that I need to get it running. But why should I have to? If I'd got it off a torrent site I'd be playing it now and I wouldn't be having to track down and install third party software on my system.
At the point I pay them money, they owe me a professionally made product that I should be able to use with as little personal hassle as possible. When you buy, yes. In the meantime dont buy of these "inconveniences" you keep harping on about. Just stop whining about it here. You are under no obligation to buy. Dont want it? They do not owe you personally. DRM is there for a reason. This newsgroup is a public forum little troll.
And as several people in the RPG group explained to you supported by evidence. It doesn't work. Now as I've said before I don't intend to argue the point with you because you're a troll, deliberately ignore any facts you don't like and call anyone who disagrees with you a pirate. Shit on the wall is probably also there for a reason. The big question is: Is it a good reason or not? And in this case, I personally really hope that the whole thing will turn around and bite their ass To stop the casual thief.
So the question is: Is it worth it? We will see about it. But personally, I hope, it isn't. Stopping someone from downloading a game illegally, doesn't mean turning this person into a buyer and increasing profit. Stopping someone from buying it, on the other hand, always means to decrease profit. No, the amount of people stealing the game isn't that big. Going into a store to steal a game is probably really hard work. Why bother, if you can simply download it illegally? I agree that DRM does need to be better.
Much better. It needs to: a actually stop piracy because at the moment it only works in very few isolated cases. As far as I am concerned any system that does not meet the above criteria is a failed DRM scheme. We will. What a load of bullshit. And its to stop pirated versions in the peak purchase period. Do you really think these companies only tag it on to annoy you?
You have far too high an opinion of your own worth I am afraid,. Most people dont download from warez. They copy from friends or borrow their DVD etc. Yes, because you're a bitter little man.
All they are trying to do is protect their hard work and generate income. Its not to annoy sad packers like you. They have identified a need for DRM and decided that losing a few blowhards like in this group is a price they are willing to pay. Its this simple : if you really feel this DRM is so "insulting" or "intrusive" then dont buy it. Get over yourself. As I already said: Shit on the wall is probably also there for a reason. That doesn't include that the reason makes any sense.
Stop trying to tell us, that the people who decided that this DRM is necessary, are infallible and always right. We will have to see if it was a good idea or not. No, I think they don't think enough WHO is gonna be annoyed.
They simply slap on something like this to do something about a vaque feeling of being threatended by "pirates" without thinking about the consequences.
Nobody will ever be able to steal it! Borrowing the DVD isn't illegal. Some companies want to prevent that, but that's another prove that they don't think about what they're doing. A few? Everywhere you turn you see people cancelling pre-orders for Ubisoft games employing this new DRM, or stating that they will not but it.
Imagine someone that connects only then and now, has limited bandwidth or just wants to play on a laptop while on the move. Yea, if it's encrypted there is no way for them to even know what you are downloading. There are some torrent clients that support encryption too. Not that I use them, I just know because I have checked them out in the past.
Stop playing the 'guilt trip' card. I could just as easily argue that it is the game publishers who are corporate thieves.
Just because the law is on their side does not make them morally right too. Obviously you were not a Robin Hood fan as a kid because the whole point of the Robin Hood story is completely lost on you. You seriously underestimate us because it is not just a few "blowhards" in this group. It is the majority of gamers all over the internet that feel the same and are calling for boycotts of all Ubisoft games on all platforms and not just the games with the new DRM.
I suggest you get the fuck out of this group and go suck more game publisher's cock elsewhere. I've actually seen that happening at EB when they used to take returns. This guy about 19 years old was returning 5 games at once to the EB employee.
When they both saw me scoping them out they both looked mighty nervous. What was going on was that the guy was buying the games from EB to make copies to upload to pirate sites and then returning them to his "friend" for a refund at EB Games.
No one buys 5 new games and then returns all 5 for a refund. That is exactly what we suggest. It's like western democracy, in order to have a free and open democracy you have to take the bad with the good and don't punish the good too just because of a few bad people. No Starforce in that version. I feel your pain though. I have a few games that have the old Starforce in them and refuse to install them.
I even told one publisher Cineware I wanted a refund on one game because it has Starforce and there was nothing on the box stating so prior to purchse. They completely ignored my email. Legally, I could take them to small claims court and get my money back but of course that is not worth my time or cost. I am fairly certain I would win such a case though. He probably thinks Bob Hood was okay because he was only taking money from the rich, not taking money form his beloved game developers, pirating software or saying that DRM schemes don't work.
Walt seems to have a very focused moral compass. Probably he should have a beer or two to calm down. Cheers, turns out that it's pretty much broken on Win7 due to the DRM Not the game code , ended up getting a cracked.
Like most other things like this, the best way to tackle it is to attack the supply. Get the pusher first and then worry about the user. I'd like to see tangible efforts made to stop it stopped at source. I detest the way that DRM has become more and more draconian. It can't be cheap and some of the extra cost must surely be passed on to the consumer. It also often inconveniences the user in ways that the pirates can sit and point and laugh at time after time. I'd like to see at least some of that money and effort put into stamping as much "insider" dishonesty as possible.
Those people are at least as guilty as the people that download it. There is no disputing that DRM is the direct result of years of piracy. However, the current methods are threatening to harm the industry just as much and are in danger of becoming a self fulfilling prophecy. I'm kind of glad that none of these titles are "Must Have's" for me, but the fact is that Ubi has published a lot of games I love and it's just a matter of time until I have to deal with this.
Here is my take on it. I will not pirate games. If the DRM is as offensive as it sounds, I simply will not buy. One of the main reasons is that I'm a long time gamer and I don't trust them not to just shut the servers down when a newer version of the game is released or they decide they just don't feel like supporting it. I regularly go back and replay old stuff, right up to the point that I have a room full of 80's and 90's arcade machines. I won't buy something I can't play in 5 years. I know someone will chime in the "the patch" argument that will stop the server check, but there is no guarantee they will do this, especially considering the short-sighted decisions they are already making.
What are the two biggest developer issues with PC games? OK, so they add this draconian copy protection scheme to circumvent piracy, but that causes people like me who purchase PC games a year to avoid their software.
Hopefully they will revise this to something a little less offensive. Somehow it never occurs to them that people may not like the game, or the DRM bolted onto it and thus won't buy it or pirate it.
So much easier to blame everything on piracy. And even easier to pretend it doesn't exist and blame their failing fortunes on you Knights of CSIPCA who refuse to defile your honour and buy a good game if it "inconveniences" you.
How very, very sad. These people are not idiots. They are not in the business of cutting of their noses to spite their face. They, frankly, dont give a flying fek about the few whiners in here who are just annoyed that it wont be quite as easy to steal on opening day And you know it. This is one of the biggest problems with the piracy vs. DRM arguments; there aren't, as far as I know, any decent figures out there to support either side. As far as piracy is concerned, I'm aligned wtih the thought that people that pirate weren't going to buy it anyway.
I know most people say they do it as a "trial" before they buy or they are too poor to buy it, but both of those reasons are bullshit. They are actually just cheapskates that will move onto something else they can get for free rather than buying the title with DRM that can't be defeated. I hope they catch you and fine your arse off. My ire would rather be turned against the pricks at Ubisoft, but I can see you enjoy kissing corporate ass. I wonder if you are American, as your health insurance and pharmaceutical and private hospital and banking sectors have benefited from just such attitudes.
It was really enjoyable to watch the relationship between Merlin and Arthor. Your missus likes Rome but doesn't like nudity in shows? Hrmmm that's a confusing mix ; Just finished Rome S1 and have recently purchased S2, I hope it's as good!
I own them all up to Part 1 of S4, which for some reason is in two parts?!? What was with that, maybe the writers strike messed with it? Anyway, I've yet to see the conclusion missed it on Sci Fi chan and am hanging out for it.
I'm yet to finish S2 myself There was a big gap during the writer's strike, hence the split I think. Yeah, BSG is about as depressive as I can stand my sci-fi. Great remake, though it won't have the poignant memories of the original from my early teens :. OT: Stephen Hawking seriously ill.
