Not only do they take combat power away from the attack or defense, but in PG they also decrease your initiative, which is rolled for at the start of each turn. Now we get to the problems with the system as a whole. It is a satellite view of the entire Area of Operations. If I had not gotten rid of the series during a move, I would have at least kept the map. It is one of the best maps in wargaming. The issue with the system, is that the maps from each individual module differ greatly from maps from other modules.
If you take the maps from Cassino, Battle for Normandy and the base game, they are miles apart. A bizarre color pallette and artwork make this map, though playable, very hard to take. Take in to account that some maps are mounted, some are not, many of the unmounted maps use different quality paper, it is unusable if someone wanted to combine modules for a larger scale game.
The counters themselves are adequate. The problem here is that the artwork, while being average or less, takes up too much room, crowding the stats on the counters, making it arduous at times to deal with.
This, combined with the greatly varying thickness of counters, also makes for combining modules too much of a chore to really deal with. Another comment on the artwork. All of the vehicles have a top down view. This may not have been so bad, except that the tanks especially, have a lot of detail on them, which in the end just makes it a rectangular scribble in the end.
Another problem is that there is no support for lost counters, replacements, etc. IT is a one man operation for the most part, and he will not hesitate to tell you in no uncertain terms. The rules are 35 pages long and cover everything pretty well.
They are well written and have a good index and the fan base was active on FB and had a very active forum section in PG-HQ. The game moves along at a fairly good pace. What really done it in for me was this last component, that of the publisher.
