After a power outage, my Windows 7 laptop again could not find my Windows box. I had to reset the LmCompatibiltiyLevel to its original setting and then back to "1" before the Windows was visible again. Sign up to join this community. You don't want to use Homegroup unless you have all Windows 7 machines. Obviously you would substitute your correct subnet. Refer to any third party security program's Help or user forums for how to properly configure its firewall. Do not run more than one firewall. For ease of organization, put all computers in the same Workgroup.
Create matching user accounts and passwords on all machines. Select a user account to automatically log on by clicking on the desired account to highlight it and then hit OK. Enter the correct password for that user account if there is one when prompted. Leave it blank if there is no password null.
Create shares as desired. You may want to try on the Windows For username simply use any username that's password protected on the Win2k. After doing that, successfully, I can now also access Ubuntu through Windows 7's Network. Won't guarantee it will still work after a reboot though. Then I created a user account on the 2K machine, and Win7 logged in fine.
I tried that but I still can't get in. Is there some way i can just disable the password instead of mucking around with making new user accounts etc? Ok, well i'll have to go dig out my XP disc i guess. Thanks guys!
