There were programs available that would partition your drive without erasing all your stuff, but they cost money. The GParted project has released a LiveCD which allows Ghost-like efficient disk and partition imaging over a network. UnlikePartimage or ntfsclone, which only for partitions. I'll start by saying that gparted seems like a good program, even though I haven't had the chance to work with it so much. The whole event started for a month ago and has reached the point on where I am quite lost.
I wanted to try Ubuntu and Linux after getting upset that my Windows Vista ran so slow on my laptop. So I ran the live CD and on the surface it seemed easy and clean, so I installed it and reformatted my hardrive during the Ubuntu setup so I couldn't dual boot with Vista.
After a while I came to the conclusion that Ubuntu was quite complicated and would take too much time for me to understand and get it working. The whole HD was whiped and my "recovery partition" was gone. And here is where gparted comes in the picture!
Totally lost but not willing to give up, I tried making a new partition table, I deleted everything and started from scratch. I came a bit into the loading of different objects, and when it was about to continue I get a bluescreen with the error message sounding something like this: 0xB More numbers , I know this error message by heart soon!
This is where my knowledge ends, I have no idea what to do and what I did wrong. I really could need some help, and even though this doesnt have so much with gparted to do, I didn't really know where to post this problem. All help would be nice, and remember I'm a real beginner at this;. Did XP partition and format your harddisk at last? What filesystem is actually used? Does "GParted" show any partitioning or is it "unallocated space" in total? Was XP able to copy something to the harddisk? Stop fault 0x7B indicates that a chipset driver is missing.
If it happens at a very early stage of installation process, you need a special driver from your mainboard manufacturer Download site? You remember, that you have to press [F6] , if an unusual driver has to be loaded, during early stage of installation process? Maybe you have success, if you "slipstream" merge your original OS with its latest update SP3.
